USING EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION TO INCREASE PARENTS’ INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES OF ANAO-AON CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Parental involvement in all school activities is crucial in attaining the goals of the school especially in promoting student development; hence, this action research aims to increase parents’ involvement at Anao-aon Central Elementary School by using extrinsic motivation or reward system. Participants were the two hundred forty-six (246) parents of Grades I-IV learners enrolled during School Year 2019-2020. Attendance of parents for the first quarter activities was used as baseline data to present the status of parental involvement before the intervention, and was used in comparison to the parents’ participation in the second quarter. Results showed that the reward system as the intervention provided positive feedback attested by the increased parental participation in school activities. There was no significant difference in the parents’ participation before and after implementation as evidenced in the Analysis of Covariance results but the noted increase in the attendance of the parents indicated that the implemented extrinsic motivation or the reward system motivated the parents to participate in the different school activities; hence, extrinsic motivation was an effective intervention to increase parents’ involvement in school activities.
