THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA-BASED INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES (SMBIA) ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICS OF THE GRADE 10 STUDENTS OF SURIGAO DEL NORTE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

This study aims to determine whether Social Media-Based Intervention Activities can improve the academic performance of Grade 10 students in Mathematics. Participants were the ninety (90) Grade 10 students of Surigao Del Norte National High School, where fifty students in the experimental group engaged in Social Media-Based Intervention Activities and the remaining fifty students were in the control group. Researcher-made pre-test and post-test were used as the research instrument to measure the performance level of the participants, while mean and analysis of covariance were employed to treat the gathered data statistically. The results revealed that both the control and experimental groups performed very low or considered “beginning” as to the proficiency level in mathematics during the pre-test. After the intervention, both groups achieved a “proficient level” in their performance. Although both groups performed proficiently in the post-test result, a significant difference between their performance levels was observed based on the computed significance level; hence, the use of Social Media-Based Intervention Activities helped enhance the academic performance of the grade 10 students of Surigao Del Norte National High School in Mathematics.
